Housing & Planning
The Housing & Planning Action Group aims to ensure that the housing needs of the local community are fully recognised; to preserve and enhance the appearance and character of Keyworth and its surroundings; and to encourage well designed, sustainable development that is valued by the local community.
The Keyworth Village Plan will incorporate a Village Design Statement and encourage its adoption as a Supplementary Planning Document by Rushcliffe Borough Council.
Context
Initial public consultation highlighted a number of issues relating to planning and housing, including:
- A perceived shortage of affordable housing (especially for younger people);
- Potential threats to the character of the village and to the surrounding green belt posed by development policy;
- Village demographic is changing;
- An Appraisal & Management Plan for Keyworth Conservation Area is likely to be developed over the coming months.
The Village Plan provides us with an opportunity to say what we like and dislike about Keyworth, and also how we would like to see Keyworth develop in the future.
The inclusion of a Village Design Statement will allow us to describe these likes and dislikes in a more formal manner, and to develop a set of guidelines for future development within the village.
We will encourage Rushcliffe Borough Council to adopt our Village Design Statement as a Supplementary Planning Document, which would give additional strength to the views of our community in the planning process.
Key Questions
Here are a few key questions for discussion by the Action Group:
- Is Keyworth overdeveloped?
- Is the Green Belt boundary sacrosanct?
- Does Keyworth need more housing?
- If so, what kind of housing is needed?
- How would we define 'Affordable Housing'?
- Can we identify development that is particularly good or bad? (landmarks & eyesores)
- Does Keyworth have a distinct character? (perhaps more than one in different areas)
- How can we define the character(s)?
- Should the Conservation Area boundary be altered?
- How does Keyworth fit into existing plans (local, regional, national)?
- What is the composition of the current population?
- How is that population likely to change in the future?
