| Comment Text | |
|---|---|
| 1. | Possibly a drop in café/music bar |
| 2. | Under 5's are inadequately provided for, where are the swings etc on the playing field? If there were more organised activities for 11-18yr olds it might deter drugs and anti-social behaviour |
| 3. | Should be more for children to do in evenings esp. teenagers |
| 4. | There should be more activities for young people, maybe a picture house as well |
| 5. | Large numbers of young people even if behaving can be intimidating outside shops or street corners/village hall etc |
| 6. | Comparatively few young people behave in an anti-social way. |
| 7. | Youths hanging around the playing fields do at times, esp. summer, disrupt meetings/events in the village hall. Youth also congregate in large groups leaving litter behind and generally intimidate other residents. |
| 8. | Too many young people hanging around the village hall in evenings, drinking etc. |
| 9. | Facilities should be provided for young people to keep them "out of mischief" and not just hanging around. |
| 10. | This group is most in need of rethinking and planning for in Keyworth leisure clubs are all for up to 11 yr old |
| 11. | Young people or playing fields around village hall can be intimidating |
| 12. | There could be more activities for young people if more adults volunteered to run them. |
| 13. | The park near the primary school is desperate to be updated! |
| 14. | Why do community officers only patrol when youngsters are at school? |
| 15. | There is nowhere socially to meet indoors, important in winter. Such as a café with pool tables etc. |
| 16. | Keyworth's play areas leave a lot to be desired. You cannot take a small child to a play area as well as supervising an older child on a play area for their age group. Although living in a suburb surrounded by land, none seems available for rough and tumble play. |
| 17. | There is a shortage of unsupervised facilities, for example recreation areas for young people |
| 18. | A small element that are not well behaved and give majority a bad reputation. |
| 19. | Although there are facilities in Keyworth available, the minority of young people that cause trouble will not be persuaded to make use of these. |
| 20. | My daughter turns 10 this year and I don't think there is anything for her apart from leisure centre. Playground near Keyworth nursery is very limited. You should develop Platt Lane more, is it just football? Do you consult years 5 and 6 in schools? |
| 21. | Most are well behaved, but they do not have sufficient activities for them. Some provided require money to attend, for example clubs etc. There is no cricket facility, Keyworth Theatre Dance do provide great opportunities for girls and Platt Lane football is excellent. But there is nothing between these for other youngsters. |
| 22. | Facilities and opportunities for young people have improved recently, but we need to continue to encourage them and involve them in other aspects of village life to give them pride in our village. |
| 23. | Litter main problem |
| 24. | Should be more activities and a wider range of groups for young people |
| 25. | The dropping of litter, particularly food wrapping/waste would be my main complaint. Under- age drinking around village hall is a problem. |
| 26. | Young people need a café or meeting areas other than skate park or Rec, where they can meet safely with SUBTLE, GENTLE adult supervision, so they're not on the streets. A café or coffee bar open in the evenings with some facilities would be good. The present youth club only appeals to a small minority as strongly identified with one type of young person! My 16yr old doesn't know anyone of their age group or friends that goes there. Could it be linked to Leisure centre in some way run by (older) young people with profits to charity. |
| 27. | Need more organised activities for young people. They need to appeal to all young people. There is only the skate park, the Rec' is unruly and filthy. Unsupervised areas after dark are very dangerous. The young people have no respect for the areas they live in. Parents and schools should teach children to pick up litter. |
| 28. | Need to do more for young people so we can stop gangs congregating in notorious black spots, i.e. Patel’s wall, bus stop in Square. |
| 29. | Feel Keyworth gives no support to our young people. They hang around getting into trouble and drinking because they're bored. Yes, we have a youth club but they need so much more, An internet café or something similar to the Bayside diner in Home and Away. They need somewhere to gather, music, food and shelter. |
| 30. | Don't like the gangs that hang around Manor Road shops, very intimidating at times. |
| 31. | Behaviour around the wall nr Londis is unacceptable and very intimidating at times. The kids hanging about on the Parade can be rude and make the place look a mess. They have no respect. They have nowhere to go. |
| 32. | In need of land for Quad and motorbike sports for the young. |
| 33. | Not enough clubs to go to. |
| 34. | Not much for young ones at all in Keyworth. |
| 35. | Get the impression that these facilities are inadequate. |
| 36. | Nowhere for young people to go, they hang around the Co-op on the benches, they go to the pubs under-age and then cause havoc on the way home. They drink under age from Co-op and Somerfields. |
| 37. | Seems that a percentage of young teenagers just hang around dropping litter and generally make a lot of noise. |
| 38. | Number hanging around is excessive at times on the Parade. Young people should be more involved in volunteer programmes, for example hospitals or charities. |
| 39. | A small number who congregate at different points in the village and can appear anti-social or even threatening. |
| 40. | Very little for under 11's, the park does not really meet the needs of children above 3 or 4 years old. |
| 41. | Judging from the number of children wandering aimlessly down Lings Lane looking for trouble, for example setting light to the barn this week, wandering down with copious bottles or drink, they need more facilities available to them. |
| 42. | Since the seat has been installed outside the Co-op it has become a focal point for teenagers. Almost every morning litter is strewn around despite litterbins nearby. When I challenged a youth about this recently I just got lots of verbal abuse. |
| 43. | There are often large groups of young people around Keyworth in the evenings |
| 44. | Too many young people hanging around the streets, I really object to teenagers and older children hanging around the little park area on Nottingham rd |
| 45. | I believe the young of Keyworth are well behaved and have a bad press due to a small minority |
| 46. | Provision of a youth worker, professional not a volunteer. |
| 47. | Living adjacent to South Wolds we despair of lunchtime behaviour on the field. Verbal abuse, general lack of discipline and respect, even food thrown at our windows! |
| 48. | Not enough facilities for older teenagers. |
| 49. | Young people are very untidy, esp. near take-aways. |
| 50. | There are few, if any, places where young people can go to meet up with friends. Streets are the only option, there are no open spaces at all on the east side of Keyworth. |
| 51. | Although I have 11-18 yr olds, they make no/little use of out of school activities, and I think, regard them as poor/inadequate. |
| 52. | There should be more "non-sporting" activities available to this age group, i.e. Youth club open to 11+, also more recreational facilities available. Would like more provision for childcare for 11-15 in school holidays and after school facilities. |
| 53. | I am not aware of many clubs or activities for this age range or areas for them to hang out at. |
| 54. | It is clear that since it was made a language school, South Wolds has attracted a right bad element, much to our peril. |
| 55. | People should be encouraged to keep their children in and safe, so people are not intimidated when going out. |
| 56. | Some of South Wolds pupils look a mess; there should be tighter control over wearing school uniform. |
| 57. | There is always a bad element of youth that need to be corrected by firstly parents, then schools, and if necessary the Police. Ball games should be forbidden outside the playing fields, too much damage is caused by footballs being kicked on the way to the field. |
| 58. | Young people do hang around but only a few are not well behaved. |
| 59. | Not sure how inclusive activities are for those children and young people with disabilities. |
| 60. | Young people need more supervised activities, this has been a neglected area of development until recently, as the churches have worked together to fund a youth worker project. |
| 61. | Concerned for young people that aren't interested in sport, perhaps could explore things such as, drama, music, places to hang out safely etc. |
| 62. | Groups of teenagers congregate in unsuitable places because they have nowhere else to go, certain areas feel very threatening after dark. |
| 63. | Not enough activities for young people so that’s why they hang around the streets. |
| 64. | Lets have some parks like they have in West Bridgford. There is nothing free for the youth of the village, things need to be done now, not in 4-5 years time. Free 5 a side pitch/basket ball court/ shelter/ youth club disco etc. Use the Rec' for young people and not just for cricket and football clubs, its for the whole village not just the select few. |
| 65. | The variety of activities doesn't seem to be well advertised. They should be advertised in schools so that young people are aware. The number of young people hanging around at night seems to have increased |
| 66. | Organised activities are excellent, yet little is said about these. Uniformed groups rely on volunteers and several almost close due to lack of adult support. Dancing classes are of a high standard, sports groups involve many youngsters in healthy exercise. But large groups of young people are not involved in any of these and they are the ones for whom facilities need to improve. |
| 67. | There is not enough for the young to do in Keyworth hence the damage that they do. |
| 68. | Although not excessive, the number of young people hanging around can seem unnerving and even threatening at times, esp. after dark. There are not enough facilities for them to use as meeting places. |
| 69. | Clubs like Keyworth United FC provide a great service to the community, providing a sense of belonging and team spirit, fresh air and exercise; local authorities do not always appreciate this. The loss of use of the Rec' on Sundays is just not right, it should be made fully available. |
| 70. | Biggest problem appears to be around Wolds Driveshops, large groups in evenings and weekends, lots of litter etc. |
| 71. | Too many hanging around the Rec', drinking, swearing etc. No problem with them when they are just hanging about behaving, but more often than not they are drunk or behaving in an intimidating manner. |
| 72. | I have observed some thoughtless behaviour around the village, for example kicking cable equipment box beside the pavement and jostling folk off the pavement, They indicate a self-centred general attitude among SOME young people, which has nothing to do with the amount of facilities or organised things to do in Keyworth. |
| 73. | Schools should give lessons to all pupils on the effects of litter on the environment. |
| 74. | Generally well behaved, but groups congregate outside Budgens, smoking and drinking. |
| 75. | No unsupervised facility in Keyworth apart from skate park. Not allowed ball game son Rectory field? I have a 12yr old boy who does need time with friends, alone, unsupervised, but there's nowhere for him to go. |
| 76. | I have 2 teenagers but neither have found much to entertain them other than occasional things at Leisure centre. |
| 77. | Any amount of young people in shops/pubs and the streets can be very intimidating |
| 78. | Behaviour in general - they are reasonably well behaved, but the behaviour around the Parade as they come off buses and go to school in mornings is very selfish. Usually young people will move over the pavement when they are in groups to allow you to pass, but some simply do not. |
| 79. | Tendency for some young people to be rude, for example walking in groups right across the pavement expecting adults to walk into the road to get past them. |
| 80. | Children seem to have no respect for others within the community. |
| 81. | Majority of clubs and sporting facilities do encourage young people but there appears to be a lot of teenagers who choose not to use them. |
| 82. | Generally young people are good in Keyworth, I do not like the fact that they invade the Parade shops and leave litter at lunchtimes. Also the car horns we seem to have played to us loudly as they drive fast through our streets. |
| 83. | It’s always a small minority that causes problems, whilst the issue is limited here, everything should be done to curtail any unsociable behaviour. |
| 84. | Keyworth has always sought to provide for its young people and in my opinion few other villages could do more. Its sad a small minority seem set to destroy. |
| 85. | What about a basketball area (like West Bridgford) My 14yr old only goes now and then to Youth Club. A lot just walk around Keyworth or go into town. We do not have a nice park for them to go to. What about a cyber café. Skate park OK but a bit hidden. |
| 86. | The small young child’s park is not suitable for 11-18years, better play areas/parks/grounds should be made available in community centre grounds (near Village Hall) |
| 87. | There are a significant number of feral yobs hanging around certain focal points in Keyworth |
| 88. | Outside Budgens seem to be an area where a lot of young people hang around which can be quite menacing. |
| 89. | Many sporting activities are available for young people but a purpose built Youth centre, belonging to the County council and once a thriving unit open at least 5 days a week, now appears to be sadly underused. |
| 90. | More outdoor space for free activities, for example football would be good. Could there be some kind of "teenage playground" with appropriate equipment so that they don't feel the need to hang around the young children’s play area on Nottingham Road. |
| 91. | A good coffee bar might de useful in the evenings. |
| 92. | The garages at the rear of the Wolds Driveshops should be "sorted out" to prevent abuse by youngsters. |
| 93. | There are several Youth workers in Keyworth, the Parish or Borough councils could give more financial support to these workers. |
| 94. | There is a lot of people hanging around Budgens which could be very intimidating |
| 95. | Don't have any dealings with 11-18’s, as my child is younger. Don't feel I can say much about hanging round; however, anti-social car driving seems to go on near Village Hall. |
| 96. | Don’t know enough about youth activities to answer all of the above. |
| 97. | The youth club should access more funding to meet the needs of young people in Keyworth. Let the young people decide what they want in this facility. Let them form a committee and get involved. If Redhill in Coventry can do it, I'm sure we can. Our young people are becoming increasingly isolated due to video games. Think how this may affect their emotional and mental health well being in the future. |
| 98. | Sad to occasionally see groups of "hoodies" around. |
| 99. | Generally well behaved. However, there are a few who tend to spoil this, particularly after daylight hrs. This is where a speedy police presence would have some value and possible reduce the recent increase in local crime. The Air cadets 2425 squadron provides interest and stimulation for quite a few of our young people and deserve our support. |
| 100. | We do not have enough contact with young people but what we see makes us think that Church Dr and Budgens and Wolds Parade are greatly affected adversely by great influx during school times. Perhaps a redevelopment of South Wolds school just on the outskirts of Keyworth would provide more space for all school activities and also car parking. A small development of affordable housing and old peoples accommodation could take its place. |
| 101. | Only seems to be skate park and leisure centre available for young people. |
| 102. | I feel that the young are badly provided for and they need to be consulted on what they want. |
| 103. | I recommend you view the play park at Wellin school, which is excellent. |
| 104. | The village should be more sensitive to those special events, such as end of term/exams at school, when more youngsters gather in public and should provide for community support officers in a non-obtrusive way. |
| 105. | Stop the shops selling alcohol to under age young people. |
| 106. | Generally well behaved but I am sometimes affected by 1 or 2 who cycle round my open fronted lawn and over small hedge! Their attitude to careless leaving behind of food containers etc is mindless, but not too noticeable where I live. |
| 107. | It may be that the children doing damage in Village Hall area are not local. More police on foot would help. |
| 108. | Young people need to be given activities and interest in Keyworth, if not they will find other things that get them into trouble. Their views are under represented at present. |
| 109. | We live close to Rectory playing fields and there is children aged 11-18 drinking alcohol during the week, but no sign of the local constabulary! The Rec' and The Square on a Friday night is a no-go area at times. Unfortunately it's getting worse. |
| 110. | As parents who can afford activities for our child, we are the lucky ones. However not everyone can, which is why children walk the streets and hang out outside Budgens and Village Hall. A Youth Club more than once a week? |
| 111. | Any additional facilities for young people would encourage more groups of youths hanging around and bring groups from outside the village. |
| 112. | Numbers are rapidly growing within unsupervised areas, eg. Outside Londis/Village field/Village Hall/outside Co-op, can be quite intimidating. Bad language and anti-social behaviour is increasingly more prevalent. |
| 113. | Though there are clubs etc, there should be more for the older teens, 15-18years, for example local discos. |
| 114. | Groups hanging around the Village Hall and Square can be intimidating. |
| 115. | An internet café would be ideal for young people, the youth club only attracts a certain group of young people. |
| 116. | You should have put the last two questions first. I suspect a lot of people will tick no opinion for the first few questions, then not bother reading the rest and just tick no opinion. This is an opportunity missed - it would be great to know what the general public think of youngsters in Keyworth. |
| 117. | Organised activities for 0-11 age range are good, then they tail off, unless you are into football or tennis or some other sport. There is no park, only a field. It is far too generalised to say 11-18yr olds are well behaved or not, some are and some are not. Young people hanging about may not be our local Youth, but may be from neighbouring areas. |
| 118. | More police required in evening. |
| 119. | Young people hang around the playing field and Budgens. |
| 120. | In our locality they seem well behaved. |
| 121. | Facilities should be provided for 11-18's for evenings supervised. Part of the evening problem is youngsters visiting from other areas, whose background is not of the same calibre of those of Keyworth- Yes I'm a snob. |
| 122. | More choice, esp. in music, sport, and fashion. There was an excellent musical project running at South Wolds school (but open to all), but it had to close due to funding problems. Let's have more "drop-in" style holiday/weekend workshops in music, art, sport, photography, film, fashion etc. many of our teenagers just go to the city to drink, we need dynamic alternatives that catch their imagination. |
| 123. | Young people hanging around Parade and Budgens v intimidating and without manners. Always rubbish on pavements when they have gone. |
| 124. | Would like to see agencies, for example Youth club/ sports/church etc developing more work together to broaden provision. |
| 125. | As a senior citizen I have little contact with the young people but I feel that their views should be sought and acted on. |
| 126. | Most of young people are brilliant, a few bring them down. Their parents should be made to be more responsible and accountable and aware of their offspring ( esp. their whereabouts at night). |
| 127. | Young people should be encouraged not to drop litter particularly on school playing field and surrounding area. |
| 128. | Need something for young people that captures their imagination, as the Youth Club is not enough. Maybe build a Go-Kart track up Platt Lane as they like driving around in cars and using our roads as a racetrack! |
| 129. | Young people in Keyworth at present are mostly acceptable. |
| 130. | Young people congregate on Rectory playing field at night and make lots of noise and leave lots of litter. Sometimes cars are in the turning circle with their radios on at full blast. |
| 131. | There are no recreational areas for 11-18yr olds that I'm aware of apart from Skate park. There are defined areas in Keyworth where young people always hang out at night and the noise and damage can be excessive, for example Wolds Drivebus shelter, outside Village Hall. More police presence needed. |
| 132. | Suitable apparatus for older children so that the provision for the younger ones is not swamped by older children. A monthly disco for teenagers, soft drinks only. |
| 133. | More anti-social behaviour by young people around the Parade, the Square and Village Hall. |
| 134. | Bad language is considered to be the norm. Also litter discarded on school playing field is disgusting this week (9th May) |
| 135. | V large numbers of 11-18years olds hang around, on the Rec', outside Co-op, Budgens, Londis, corner of Parade by the Tavern pub. They are loud, abusive, block the pavements and vandalise the areas. (Bin outside Co-op ripped out, Phone box nr Budgens ripped out). Also big problem with under age drinking on the Rec'. |
| 136. | Although not involved in young people's activities, we feel that, as much provision should be made for them as possible, to give them a quality of life and to foster a sense of community in their teenage years. |
| 137. | Only problem we see is in Manor Road area |
| 138. | 11-18yr olds need motivation and something for everyone, i.e. skate park is only good for those who skate. |
| 139. | Young people are no more mischievous now than when I was young (50's) the big difference is, there is no PC Plod walking the streets to keep an eye on things. |
| 140. | Leisure centre has a good selection of courses but not everyone can afford to pay. |
| 141. | Young people aged 16-18 want something just for their age group. |
| 142. | Play facilities for young children is not very good. The park for under 8's is all we have and that is always muddy. There is nothing for over 8's. It's time we had some parks like West Bridgford has. |
| 143. | Young people from South Wolds seem to be a significant source of litter, it decreases markedly out of term time. Also a cause of some vandalism on roads leading away from South Wolds. |
| 144. | Youths under the influence are a problem at weekends and in summer hols. This is a national issue but should not be ignored in the plan for the future well being of this great village. |
| 145. | Very important for young people to have facilities to occupy them during evenings and school hols. |
| 146. | Very well provided for. Playing field. Leisure centre, skate park, library with computers, many sports clubs, choir, and drama club, camera club that are not just for older residents. Also Guides, Scouts and a good bus service to city centre. What more can be wanted! |
| 147. | Top of Fairway, nothing for children to do, so they play football on cul-de-sacs, inviting friends round and running on your garden, I already have a feud with neighbours because of this. There should be an all-weather (astro turf) facility available to stop this long running issue. |
| 148. | I have 2 children at South Wolds and know there is widespread underage drinking every weekend on the Rec'. Why does it continue, its highly undesirable and children and parents should be more concerned. |
| 149. | A great shortage of places for young people to "hang out" |
| 150. | Football nets on the Rec' would be well used by those not members of Platt Lane. |
| 151. | Many organised activities are church related, I do not agree with this totally. Although Christian, my son had all sorts of religious ideas thrust upon him at a local Friday group. I want him to think for himself /science/fact based, not bible bashing. |
| 152. | Good range of activities, but too much reliant on goodwill of people. Many people in and around Keyworth give of their time freely, but there are some youngsters whose needs are not catered for. They are in minority but still, if not catered for, become a problem. |
| 153. | Youth Club is not well regarded as the place to be for more able, social teenagers. |
| 154. | I have not experienced any negative/bad behaviour of young people since living here (18 months) |
| 155. | Difficult to comment due to own children having grown up and flown the coop! I feel the majority suffer the odium created by the few. Not all provision is used - good scout/guide provision etc. But with aging population distorting the pyramid we need to pull old and young together to build a really caring/ sharing community where all elements dovetail and understand each other and their respective needs - communication and contact (meaningful) |
| 156. | Tollerton has recently launched its new park and for a village much smaller than ours, it puts ours to shame. |
| 157. | Don't think that providing more and more facilities will produce a better society |
| 158. | Needs to be a park for 11-18yr olds to play and also some kind of caged area where 11-18's can play football and basketball. How about the old park area? Have a look at what they have in East Leake. |
| 159. | Very little for them to do. Even ages over 7 has very poor, park is only for up to 7yr olds. Now leisure centre is private even fewer things to do over school holidays. What about an internet café, or other. |
| 160. | There are inadequate play/leisure facilities for all children. An area similar to those in West Bridgford should be provided in a central, easily accessible area. Basketball/football court and equipment for all ages. |
| 161. | Too many gangs of children hang around together, they can be loud, disrespectful and intimidating. More police patrols throughout the evenings would be better, i.e. to handle the rising drug problems. |
| 162. | Up to 11yr olds have more activities than the 11-16 groups and seem to be catered for. |
| 163. | I live on Manor Road by Londis (for 1 yr) and have never had any problems with young people. |
| 164. | Too many gangs of younger people hanging around streets |
| 165. | Basketball courts, tennis courts, more availability would be good. More information about activities needs to be available. |
| 166. | No play area for 11-18yr olds. Youth club is good for over 13's but my son is 12. Middle field on Croft Road would be a good idea for a park, if residents complain of noise it's wrong as the council estate is made for families (not old person living in 3 bed house!) |
| 167. | There should be a lot more in the village, getting them active rather than hanging about on streets, there is nothing for them to do. I have 4 children and there should be more for them. |
| 168. | I don't know anyone who uses the phrase Young People, it's a sure sign that they are detached and have little knowledge of what everyone else refers to as "kids and youth". On Manor Road Top provision for kids and youth is a couple of walls just outside shops where they gather, sit and ride their bikes around. |
| 169. | Skate park is situated in an isolated area, meaning children are rather vulnerable. There could be more clubs for 11-18yr olds. |
| 170. | A few hang about near Manor Road shops and cause litter. |
| 171. | I live near garages where youngsters unite together, it’s a nightmare. |
| 172. | Organised activities at Youth Club are only on 3 nights a week and should be available more. Plus once inside they should have more activities to do, Only organised activity is Youth Club that we know of, if there are more we should be made aware of them. 7.15-9.15pm is not appropriate time when kids have to get up for school the next day. Skate park is a bit out of way for the kids on Council Estate. I know they can go on the Rec at night but if they make too much noise they get moved on by the police. So on nights Youth Club not available for 11-18yr olds where are they to go? especially in summer nights. As for daylight hours, in school holidays, it’s the same. We need a little cinema and McDonalds or Burger King that will bring money into Keyworth and the kids and parents are happy. |
| 173. | We lack facilities for this age group in centre of village. Platt lane has good facilities but we need something central for families. |
| 174. | Depends where you live, May be a problem outside Village Hall late at night. Some anti- social behaviour is from 18+ not 11-18. Appears to be problems at Cotgrave and Radcliffe and we need to ensure that doesn't happen here too. |
| 175. | Generally young people are inspiration to adults. Get undeserved bad press and have poor facilities to engage with each other in social way. Young people want places to meet each other and though organised activity has its place, who wants to be organised all the time? |
| 176. | Behaviour generally is OK but there are definitely "hot spots" of vandalism and no deterrents to regular offenders. |
| 177. | People complain of gangs of 11-18yr olds hanging around streets. There is nowhere to meet up. The Rec's, not safe after a certain hr due to older ones drinking up there. The park has been taken away. They can't go to youth club until they are 13. |
| 178. | Value for money OK for us, but aware a level of income not enjoyed by all. Need more weekend/holiday activities for older kids. Need "outreach" to engage some kids in productive activities. A Multi-use games area on KPFA by Village Hall needed. |
| 179. | Too many young people "racing around" in small cars especially in late evening. |
| 180. | Playing fields are large enough to provide a hard surface playing area for a 5 a-side football/basketball facility similar to that in West Bridgford. |
| 181. | Most young people are well behaved, however more appropriate facilities such as the skate park would suit the younger population. Stop the sale of alcohol and the use of the Tavern, Plough and Fairway pubs by under-age lads. Stop the use of bookmaker by under-age people, they do not check for age. |
| 182. | Our children are only just within this age range and we have limited experience, from details and clubs advertised, it would appear a choice is available. Compared with other parishes within RBS there is no park provision for teenager or children 8years and above. The play park provision is v poor compared to other smaller villages for example Kinoulton. |
| 183. | Generally well behaved except around the Square on Friday evenings and weekends. |
| 184. | Majority of young people are well behaved, just a minority that cause trouble due to lack of parental control. |
| 185. | A challenging adventure playground with a roofed seating area (as in West Bridgford), alongside a 5 a-side pitch, all weather, for 11+ young people. |
| 186. | There are organised clubs, etc for example scouting, sporting, but these only seem to appeal to a minority. Skate park would appear to appeal to boys, what about girls? A coffee/soft drinks bar where young people could sit and chat might be an asset. |
| 187. | Majority of young people are well behaved, but a significant minority are not. |
| 188. | In any community there is an element of young people who misbehave. Please acknowledge and give credit to the vast majority of local youth who are polite, hardworking, responsible young people and a delight and pleasure to know. |
| 189. | Number of young people congregating on field by Village Hall after dark, I find disturbing. |
| 190. | Info of activities not widely available and often by word of mouth. More info should be available to encourage 11-18 to join variety of groups. Activities for older students are limited in Summer Holidays. |
| 191. | Surely it depends where you live, who your neighbours are, your proximity to " unsupervised facilities" at key times, and your proximity to public areas at key times. |
| 192. | Youth clubs should be open every evening as café/internet facility and daytime training courses. |
| 193. | Organised activities- some families may be put off by costs. |
| 194. | Young people hanging outside shops, early evening can be quite unnerving. |
| 195. | Activities for age 0-12 years are excellent. Then it suddenly stops. Nationwide problem but particularly obvious in Keyworth because 11-18 years are stuck here and cannot reach facilities of Nottingham and West Bridgford without transport. |
| 196. | Young people should be encouraged more to take part in organised activities and recognised and rewarded for doing well. Most young people I know are well mannered and polite. |
| 197. | The young people of Keyworth believe in a rude manner, particularly in and around the local library. Equally young car/bike drivers are also a growing problem, neglecting their responsibilities as road users |
| 198. | We have lived in Keyworth for 20years and brought up 2 children and always felt there was sufficient clubs and facilities for our children. The leisure centre and private fitness centre are an asset to the village. Cubs, Brownies, Scouts and Guides also an asset and library. |
| 199. | The children are generally well behaved, but it does worry me that young teenagers drink alcohol on the recreation ground at weekend (eves) I think a police person strolling through at unexpected times may help deter this behaviour, especially over the school summer holidays. |
| 200. | The only place where we know of any activities is the Youth Club that is constantly being trashed. There is always trouble, not enough leaders to supervise. Always trouble there, not suitable for all, lots of bullying going on. |
| 201. | There are very few organised activities for this age group that actually appeal to them, so can't comment, as there's nothing available to comment on. Skate park was an excellent initiative, used mainly by boys. Nothing else exists that 11-18's would use, apart from dance (mainly girls) also excellent. |
| 202. | Unsupervised activities after dark is when vandalism is likely to occur. Not a good idea in my opinion. |
| 203. | We have had groups of young people throwing stones and shouting outside our house> Maybe through a lack of excitement elsewhere. A young persons views and ideas should be considered to try to rule that out. |
| 204. | Young people in Keyworth need more things to do! E.g. a park with swings etc. A bowling alley etc. There isn't much for 11-18yr olds |
| 205. | The unsupervised areas (such as skate park) are not suitable. For instance it is too isolated for young children. It would be better placed in a well-lit area such as the playing field. |
| 206. | I have noticed an improvement in behaviour of pupils since the change in South Wolds uniforms. |
| 207. | More open recreational space desirable. Small park(s)? |
| 208. | Far too many kids hanging around shops, riding bikes/ motorcycles irresponsibly. Removed my children from South Wolds because the behaviour of the other kids was disruptive to learning and lack of respect in the schools teaching. I would move out of Keyworth if I could afford to and very closely look at a new area. |
| 209. | No children so feel unable to comment |
| 210. | My lack of opinion in question 13 is due to my lack of knowledge. Facilities for young people are important in developing good citizenship |
| 211. | At 86 years old I cannot really express any opinions on this page. |
| 212. | I think there is a lot available for children up to the age of 11, but after that there is not enough for the youngsters to do. There are excellent dancing schools and some sport activities but for those who are not into dancing or sport there is not enough. Young people often get blamed for bad behaviour but there ought to be more for them to do so that they can feel part of the community rather than being seen as a nuisance. |
| 213. | We think that the young people hanging around are more from Clifton and the Meadows as they attend the school |
| 214. | The litter is a problem in the village. Also on the school field. The youngsters should be taught to use all litter bins or be made to clear the mess in break times (school field) ~The school as a whole has a duty to keep places clean and tidy |
| 215. | I do not have a family therefore feel unable to answer these questions |
| 216. | I have had no adverse experience of young people in the village. But not because I have any fears about being in the village in the evening. |
| 217. | The skate park is too far from the centre of the village and too secluded to be used safely by all young people, there is a need for play park of equivalent within the heart of the village. |
| 218. | Young people in Keyworth do not all live in Keyworth and there are a number of young people that have no respect for the village or the people living in it. In crowds they are rude disrespectful litterlouts 'mouthy' etc. (This applies to some Keyworth young people too) Screeching cars blaring music around the Budgens area is terrible. |
| 219. | Have no children and new to area |
| 220. | It seems a shame that the elderly receive priority over the youth services |
| 221. | Young people need to express options for themselves. As an older person there seems little to attract young men/boys. Regardless of the odd bad penny the young people in Keyworth are no better and no worse than any others |
| 222. | As ever it is only a small minority who misbehave. However the perception of adults (older) is that groups of young people - noise, wearing hoods etc are threatening. The question to answer is why they do not join those organised activities. |
| 223. | Do not know about activities etc as our family are adults and moved away |
| 224. | I am a single person so have no children. However I do not think kids of this age have enough to do. I have noticed that there are increasingly more gangs of kids hanging around and do find this intimidating at times |
| 225. | More effort should be given to help 11-18 yr olds to take all the facilities which are available to them |
| 226. | The new health centre has provided another place for some young people to hang around in groups, which is intimidating for people using the path by Pitchfork's garage. The disabled parking space has become a football wall - which is possibly not an ideal place. More football practice places for young people? |
| 227. | Many of the school holiday activities are limited to under 11s |
| 228. | The shops on the Wolds Drive Parade become a 'no go' area at lunchtime. The young people can be intimidating and the rubbish they leave is disgraceful |
| 229. | We don't have children within this age range, so cannot comment on the organised activities. It does concern me to see groups of teenagers hanging around the 'Rec' and the square. I am not sure if they are all from Keyworth or the surrounding areas? |
| 230. | For young people who do not want to join organised sports / arts clubs etc the Youth Club should be available more hours including weekends |
| 231. | Since our children are now grown up and have moved away from the village and we both work full time we are no longer in touch with the 11-18 facilities and activities, either good or bad. |
| 232. | Litter droppers from food outlets |
| 233. | It rocks! Love Keyworth, better than other places, my friends don't have as many places. Unsure if there is any places to rent out for parties and social activities, like a hall. |
| 234. | Whilst most teenagers are well behaved, there are too many hanging around on certain occasions with apparently no real purpose save "larking about" in boredom. |
| 235. | Facilities for younger children by such as Keyworth United football club, Tennis club and Cricket club are to be very much appreciated but there is a limit to such facilities that can be provided |
| 236. | For Sports, children’s organised facilities are good helped by a lot of excellent volunteers (11-18). For general activities/ engaging bored youth safe areas to have encouraged activity and huge amount of investment is required, plus a lot of yet more excellent volunteers. |
| 237. | Only a small minority of young people causing problems, most are well behaved |
| 238. | There have only been very isolated problems with young people in the 25 years I have lived here |
| 239. | Some parents do not seem to instruct their children how to behave courteously and considerately towards other people and also to teach them what is right and wrong behaviour. Young people and adults should not drop litter, cycle on pavements, deface bus shelters, play loud music in gardens and rooms with open windows, but unfortunately some parents are worse behaved than their children. |
| 240. | Due to our family having passed the age of 18 and having all left home I can only my relate what I see in the village and have only filled in item 9 within section 13 |
| 241. | Certain areas, outside Budgens, by Village Hall, The Square seem to be favourite meeting places, these are the young people in Keyworth who tar the others, they are loud, drop litter, swear and generally make others feel uncomfortable, have they no sense of community pride? |
| 242. | Why can't we have a better playground like Ruddington country park? Ours is very small and restricted. |
| 243. | Not aware of availability for teenagers, as I don't have children in that age group |
| 244. | Our children are now adults and have left village so out of touch with this |
| 245. | There are evidently several activities for example Scouts and skate park but I do not have the facts to comment whether they are adequate. We do need them. |
| 246. | Agree but those who do hang round are very prominent, can be rude and disrespectful. School litter is disgraceful and the way they amble across roads is an accident waiting to happen (South Wolds) |
| 247. | When completing this section I found I had difficulty answering the questions, as I was uncertain as to what the norm is you were basing the questions on? My daughters are aged 17 and 19 now but they rarely went into Keyworth for their entertainment as their schooling has taken most of their out of class-time. |
| 248. | No opinion as we are not aware of the facilities available for 11-18 yr olds |
| 249. | Surprised survey does not consider the needs of residents 0-10. Park facilities v. limited and should be more visible to prevent use by older children |
| 250. | A parent of a 14 and 17 yr old both females. Sports are aimed at boys. No art or music activities, we have to use vital fuel energy to find these |
| 251. | Young people outside Keyworth cause the most disturbance particularly around the village hall |
| 252. | As we have no children we have no opinion on the above matters. We are aware of a large number of young people hanging around the market square, Manor Road shops and Budgens, which is not acceptable. |
| 253. | There is a huge variety of clubs etc for children to participate in. Far more than there ever was when I was of school age. |
| 254. | There always seems to be groups of 11-18's hanging around the Square and streets with apparently nothing to do. Could do with more meeting places, for example youth clubs etc. supervised or organised sports facilities, for example football-artificial surface for winter use |
| 255. | Cannot comment intelligently about the clubs and societies etc because of lack of knowledge. The appointment of a Youth worker sponsored by local churches has made a great difference to thinking about how our local young people can best be served |
| 256. | As I have not had children in this age group for many years now I’m afraid I’ve lost touch! Whilst generally they are well behaved it is still worrying that there is an element of under aged drinkers who cause problems, particularly on Friday/Saturday nights. |
| 257. | Since my children have now grown up and moved away from Keyworth, I am out of touch with many of the activities available for young people but I would like to see as wide a range as possible available for them, particularly teenagers for example more sporting activities provided by the Leisure Centre and Buzz. |
| 258. | There is a tendency for young people to congregate in certain places. Attending meetings in the Village Hall and especially Centenary Lounge are frequently interspersed with hearing foul language from young people lounging on the seats and grass outside. Leaving meetings the young people can be seen drinking alcohol and generally behaving in an intimidating manner. Several elderly people no longer attend evening meetings because of this behaviour. Young people using the bus service into Nottingham can also be a nuisance, especially the frequent use of foul language by both male and females. It is perhaps a small number of young people involved in this behaviour, which could, and should, be controlled by a greater official (police) presence on foot! |
| 259. | It's not so much the young people I'm worried about (they ARE getting slightly less objectionable), but their parents who lost control of them when they didn't say "NO" when the kids were two or three years old. You can't control 16-year-olds unless you train them from birth through till their legal majority. This reflects in such things as the past litter problem, which again is perhaps improving, and in the way they still dominate the pavements. The improvements I think MIGHT be happening are maybe the result of the schools' taking a shade more responsibility than used to be possible or undertaken? It's a question of some community action to get the parents back on our side from the early years of their kids - i.e. something organised through the Health Centre? (I say all this as a former experienced teacher.) |
| 260. | Visitors have told me that the number of South Wolds students around the parade area at lunchtimes can be quite intimidating. |
| 261. | Since I don't have children in this age range, I don't feel qualified to answer. |
| 262. | More opportunities for young people and adults to interact |
| 263. | I believe that the vast majority of young people are committed to the decent development of their locality, too much media coverage of the bad generates disproportionate opinions |
| 264. | We don't have children in this age-range and so are out-of-touch with the facilities available. |
| 265. | As a Guide leader I have had contact with a lot of families in Keyworth over the last 10 years. I generally find the young people to be polite and well behaved, with a few exceptions. I think a more challenging outdoor play area for teenagers would be enjoyed. More organised activities for older children in the school holidays, particularly summer holidays, would be beneficial to prevent boredom which can lead to mischief. I think working parents would be happy to pay for this, as most would prefer their children to be spending their time positively. Sports and arts, for example drama, would be popular. |
| 266. | As a Guide Leader I may be slightly biased in my opinion! I have contact with quite a lot of families within Keyworth. I also work at South Nottingham College, and I would say that the girls I meet through Guides are generally much better behaved and courteous than those I come into contact with at work. I think we need more challenging play equipment suitable for older teenagers, in addition to the equipment at the Nottingham Road play area. I think more organised activities for older children during the school holidays - especially summer, would be a good way of channelling positive behaviour - not necessarily free, as working parents are often quite happy to pay for something they think is worthwhile. This could be sport and art based - for example drama. |
| 267. | The children are amazingly well behaved considering the lack of positive and affordable activity made accessible to them. I would suggest that the children learn to be a little aimless at the age of 8 plus - some of the problems have their roots in children being 'put out of the house' at this sort of age without constructive purpose/places to go. I have said that the 11-18 year olds are well behaved as I compare it to areas I have lived in Nottingham- and the difference would be "we don't know how lucky we are, here" |
| 268. | Having no 11 to 18 year olds I feel it unfair to surmise the facility they have. |
| 269. | One skate park does not constitute adequate facilities. The Cricket, Football, Tennis and Rugby clubs provide good sport for youngsters but I'm unaware of much for the non sporty. Generally our young people are well behaved. |
| 270. | There is not enough opportunity for youngsters to occupy themselves in the village. For example, a café style outlet in the evenings could help, also a putting green, encourage youngsters in the Bowls club (it's not just an old persons sport), Tennis etc. With it all hidden away in a corner behind the Village Hall, it gives the impression of an exclusive members only club more than a village facility. Also encourage more involvement with the Cricket, Football and Rugby clubs, why for goodness sake does Keyworth Rugby Club have it's ground in Widmerpool, not very helpful to youngsters who might want to be involved. |
| 271. | There needs to be more places for young people to go to where they feel safe and not criticised by other people, organisations need to do more to engage with those young people from poorer backgrounds and those for whom low self esteem is an issue. |
| 272. | There are no parks for them. Loads of the activities are expensive and useless and the things that are in place are rubbish |
| 273. | As we no longer have young children or any local Grandchildren, I do not feel qualified to make any meaningful comments on this section. |
| 274. | After around 6pm most places are closed or have 'chavs' hanging around |
| 275. | I think that young people are vandalising our village and I know I will be one but I’m not going to do the same as them. |
| 276. | In order for the younger habitants of Keyworth to become sociably responsible schooling and outside activities need to be developed. An area is greatly depreciated by 'hoodies' even though not all hoodies are bad. Remember in an area with a growing elderly population it is important that all residents feel comfortable and safe in their environment. |
